Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/05/2013

Number: 1

I was walking in Montebello down to the edge of the Ottawa River. I was looking at a tiny milkweed patch near the beach where I launch my kayak and a large monarch flew out from the patch and towards the water. It didn't look faded, it was big but I couldn't tell if it was male or female. It happened too fast. The milkweed plants had been mowed this summer, so this was new regrowth. All of the mature plants have yellowed and gone the seed pods have opened.
