Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 10/06/2013

Number: 44

Despite a very cloudy, overcast and foggy day with temperatures in the mid 60's, a moderate SWS wind and hurricane Karen expecting to arrive tomorrow, I spotted 44 monarchs who arrived on the south shore beach on Long Island . By 3:30 they were roosting. The strong wind was a challenge for them and initially made it difficult to settle into the trees and shrubs. Any movement resulted in them taking flight and finding a new tree or branch to roost. Similar to previous days the roosts remain small and are primarily single to four monarchs.Temps tonight are expected to remain in the 60's however tomorrow torrential rain storms are unfortunately expected.
