Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/08/2013

Number: 37

While driving south on Memorial Drive around 11:00 AM this morning, I spotted 5 monarchs flying in various directions. (About 1 per minute) At 12:40PM, as I was driving to West of the Lake Gardens from the south, I spotted 2 more monarchs appearing to be coming from the Gardens. Upon my arrival at the Gardens, I was greeted by 30+ monarchs happily feeding on the glorious display of heliotrope & other nectar producing flowers. After speaking briefly with the head gardener, I was told that last week there were hundreds of monarchs roosting there. Because of the strong wind blowing from the south today, there will most likely be another roost of 30+ monarchs sheltered and feeding at West of the Lake Gardens tonight & tomorrow morning.
