One Monarch butterfly was flying somewhat erratically, but heading south over the cornfield near our home this morning. I lost sight of it after a few minutes, and wonder if it settled down in the corn to rest until the temperature increased. At the time I saw it, the temperature was just below 50 degrees F, with a cloudless sky. The sun was warming things up quickly, though, and temperatures climbed to the 70s by the afternoon. Hopefully, the lone flyer took advantage of the sunny day to cover some miles on the journey toward Mexico.
