I saw one monarch fly through a few days ago (~ 7 October) which is the latest I can remember seeing one in our area of Northern New Jersey. Last year there were scores of Monarchs on my bushes but this year very few. I'm wondering if this is a normal variance or if the Texas drought of last year had anything to do with it.
