Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/10/2013

Number: 25

Today is a very good Monarch viewing day at Clearville Park. Temp is 70F, sunny blue sky with a moderate east wind. The butterflies are making use of the east wind to soar to great heights (4-5 times tree top level and even higher). The wind is moving them in the direction of Pt. Pelee where they cross Lake Erie to Ohio. As happened yesterday and the day before there is a steady stream of butterflies flying over and through Clearville Park with a few stopping to nectar. I counted 25 butterflies in 10 minutes. Today’s winds are favourable so I expect this to continue throughout today. Nectar sources are drying up here and are not in as good a shape as last week but they can still be found. This weather is expected to hold for 2 more days until Saturday Oct 12. There is no frost in the forecast for this location.
