Number: 2

Enjoyed watching two fresh-looking Monarch butterflies flying around our property early this evening; neither one was tagged. One was flying low around the gardens, then resting on different trees in sunny areas. The other stayed in the still-sunny, west-facing front yard, spending the majority of time nectaring on clover. Our yard has many large patches of lush, fresh clover with beautiful large pink flowers that the Monarch seemed to love. At ~6:15 pm, the temperature was still in the mid-70s, with no wind, and it was a great evening to be outside - a nice close to a beautiful warm Fall day. Happy and grateful to host more Monarchs, as our rearing season comes to a close. I hope they enjoy their stay - with free lodging and all-you-can drink nectar bar :) - but they have a long journey ahead so I also hope they take advantage of the good weather to head south tomorrow.
