Signs of Fall
Sightings report image

Date: 10/10/2013

Number: 1

At Venable Elementary School our class measures the temperature in the front of the school. We measured the temperature twice at 9:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. The temperature is usually between 50oF and 80 oF. It’s colder in the morning than the afternoon. In the morning there is more shade, which causes it to be cooler.
We have begun taking pictures, checking, and drawing this big Southern Red Oak in front of our school. Even though it’s the beginning of fall most of the leaves are still green. Some of the leaves are brown and a tiny bit are yellow. The green leaves are smooth on the front and fuzzy on the back.
Our tree is strong and big. It is located on the left side of our school. Our tree’s acorns are small and there are less this year because it was dry. The acorn walls are fuzzy to make sure the nut does not crack. Squirrels, birds, grubs and many other animals eat the nuts. Squirrels, birds an chipmunks live in and around the red oak tree.
