Sightings report image

Date: 10/12/2013

Number: 28

On a sunny mid 60 day with a harsh east wind blowing at 25 miles per hour, 28 monarchs were spotted in the dunes on the south shore of Long Island. The strong wind beat up the monarchs resulting in them roosting on lower limbs of the pine trees and also roosting on the golden rod. Similar to previous days, the roosts were single or up to 3 monarchs. The monarchs starting roosting early with some looking exhausted. Tonight temps are expected to remain in the mid fifties with no rain expected until the end of next week.
