Each day this week we have had high temperatures between 70 to 74 degrees
and sunny skies. These are about 10 to 14 degrees above normal. Around
3:30 each day I drive slowly past the clover field across the road from my
school. We are fortunate that the farmer hasn't cut it like he did last
year. I see one or two monarchs each day. I'm wondering if there aren't
more passing through during the day since I am always seeing some at 3:30.
It is funny because I only saw 5 to 10 monarchs all summer and am now seeing
that many in a week. Our weather is set to change by Sunday and our
abnormally warm days are coming to an end. Still no killing frost, but the
plants are running out of steam and the growing season has run its course.
