Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/10/2013

Number: 40

Late flow - day 17. The remarkable late flow of monarchs continues. Again, there were >20 monarchs in the garden and on the flowers in the front of the building at 10AM. The temp is 69 and the skies are clear for the moment. Winds are S/SE at 13 mph, a good quartering wind that will help monarchs (the bearing for monarchs here is 210 so even a wind from the S becomes a quartering wind) move toward the SW.

Yesterday, October 10, at noon when I headed for class, there had to have been 30-40 monarchs at Monarch Watch. The most I've seen at any one time this year. As I've mentioned, the numbers of monarchs in this area are typically quite low after the 4th of October. I expected the numbers to drop off over the last few days but they haven't.
