Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/12/2013

Number: 3

We were at the cottage for our Canadian Thanksgiving and I was amazed to see a monarch at the roadside while out cycling. It was a male, and very fresh, with a few asters and blazing star still available for nectar. My wife spotted another the same day, and friends Steve and Pat Manske also reported seeing one for a total of 3 butterflies that day. Tobermory is at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula and the monarchs must first cross the open water of Lake Huron from Manitoulin Island and the north shore before streaming down the coastline en route to southwestern Ontario, the US, and on to Mexico.
