We had about 8 monarchs today on Goldenrod in our garden. We had lots of larvae on Asclepias incarnata a week or 10 days ago -- up to two dozen. We have not seen many chrysalis, but there is ONE we are watching now.
The sun came out today, and so did the pollinators. All kinds, but this is the most monarchs we have seen all season. We counted one large, mature Chinese praying mantis for every monarch we saw. The praying mantids were on the solidago, too, but also on salvia - especially after Cloudless Sulphur. We did not see one with a Monarch!
