Today at 2:20 PM, I saw a female monarch on the Lake Huron beach at Harrisville State Park. She was in the 'shivering mode', so I picked her up and put her on a aster plant (white flowers). Weather was cloudy, temperature 54F., Wind W-5. I now have observed 86 monarchs for October 01-17. I have an average of 96 the prior 3 years (2010-12)for the same date period above. This is also the latest monarch observed in October the last 4 years here. However, I had 1 each on November 02-03, 2011.
