I was taking my nightly walk with my dog, going down into a dry pond with frostweed and climbing milkvine bordering it. I was looking at all of the plants, hoping to see a monarch and seeing none. Then the leaves in the very tall sycamore tree on the dam that borders the pond began to rustle. I looked up and saw a group of monarchs gliding and flying effortlessly, landing momentarily in the sycamore and then flying down to a shallow spring fed pool on the other side of the dam. They flew back up to the sycamore, then flew south. In groups of 5-10 this continued until I had counted at least 40 adults. They were too high to capture and tag. It was about 6:30 PM CST and none of the monarchs stayed in the trees for more than a minute or two.
