Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/17/2013

Number: 30

Observed dozens of migrating monarchs in North Texas (McKinney) on 10/17 throughout the daytime hours; in fact in one 30 min obs/count session, in the mid/late afternoon saw them at the rate of 1 per minute; Most were flying through but some were nectaring including some on Texas Sage bush flowers (Leucophyllum frutescens). Conditions included clear skies, temp was mild, 70 degrees; Today (10/18) weather is cloudy, some drizzle, a cooler) and so the monarchs preceeded this weather change by a day.
