Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 10/17/2013

Number: 60

Keith Graves reports, "Temperature at 78 degrees , with wind a 8-12 mph, with 15+mph gusts. This 'Grove' is made up with 6 Pines, 1 Mesquite, 1 Sissoo (Dalbergia sisso, also known as Indian Rosewood, and native to India, Nepal, and Pakistan), and a single Lupine. The monarch were high in the Pine and Sissoo with a few exposed but most of them well concealed within the foliage. When I attempted to net on roosting up to 6 others, most was 12+, would flush out of the foliage and fly all around the “grove” and back into the tree leaves and needles. I estimated that there were well over 60 within this grove, and one mating pair that were united the entire time I was there." (Reported to SW Monarch Study)
