Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 10/20/2013

Number: 75

Overnight low 48. Warmed quickly, essentially cloudless. Temp while I observed 60-65.

Saw 50 to 75 go by while was doing other things. In one hour saw 30. Although wind was strong from S to SE, they were all flying directionally against it, generally southwest. They were flying low, and zig-zagged route to use our house, plus trees, shrubs and anything else for windbreak. It looked as though some larger windbreaks had reverse flow eddies, because once near it, they would glide quickly toward them then next to them, opposite to the general wind direction.

Many stopped at flowers to feed, then continued. Image is Monarch feeding on a Maximilian Sunflower. A Monarch on a monarch if you like.
