Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/13/2013

Number: 1

My last sighting of an immature female Ruby-throated Hummingbird was Sunday, October 13, 2013. I had taken nearly 18 photos of her and was crushed when the Walgreens Photo Technician called to report that my negatives were blank. The film must not have loaded properly; it's odd though that it sounded like it advanced after each shot.

My last sighting of an immature male Ruby-throated Hummingbird was October 7, 2013. (Last immature male with visible red gorget feathers).

My last sighting of an adult male Ruby-throated Hummingbird was September 15, 2013.

My last sighting of an adult female Ruby-throated Hummingbird was September 10, 2013. (Female because of molt as witnessed through my binoculars. There may have been females around after this particular sighting but it becomes difficult to determine imm.male w/o gorget feathers/imm.female/adult female this time of year).

All in all it was a wonderful year for hummbirding. I was able to hand feed an immature male Ruby-throated on August 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 19, 20, 22, 2013! I had not been able to repeat my success at hand-feeding since the first time in October 2010.

Talk to y'all again in the Spring!
