Sighting a monarch this late in October was special, even on a sunny afternoon. I monitor two sites in Hawley, one downtown near the Lackawaxan River, where a local resident maintains a garden that includes two Buddleia plants. Monarchs migrating west along the river routinely stop, but rarely after most flower heads die-back. Making periodic checks from 2:30 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. I discovered the same female gliding from stem to stem to find nectar. By 5 p.m., she was gone.
