Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/25/2013

Number: 300

I saw ~300 monarchs at Folly yesterday (10/25). I tagged 215. Today (10/26) there were many fewer. The wind subsided and today was a monarch “moving day’. I captured about 65 and saw about 80-90.

The wave of monarchs peaked on Friday (25 Oct). My results of number captured and number observed at Folly by day for the past week or so are:

20 Oct. – 41 captured; ~50 seen

21 Oct. – 51 captured; ~60 seen

23 Oct. – 55 captured; ~70 seen

24 Oct. – 12 captured; ~22 seen

25 Oct. – 215 captured; ~300 seen

26 Oct. – 77 captured; ~100 seen

27 Oct. –19 captured; ~25 seen

28 Oct. –36 captured; ~50 seen

29 Oct. –31 captured; ~35 seen

The number captured by day includes recoveries tagged/released at least a day before. I did recover 1 monarch that was likely tagged well north of us
