Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/31/2013

Number: 1

For at least a week, a white hummingbird has been appearing at Inniswood Metro Gardens in Westerville, Ohio. I finally saw her today while volunteering at the Gardens.
Allen Chartier, a licensed hummingbird bander from Michigan, drove down to see the bird and identified it as a leucistic hatch year ruby throat. The park staff has put up a feeder, as all of the plants the bird had been nectaring from have been killed by a recent frost.
Now, for the last 2 days, there have been TWO white hummingbirds, one much smaller and faster than the other. These two birds have become quite the celebrities, on UTube, and pictured in the blog of Jim McCormac, a local naturalist. Birders are coming from near and far to see them.
