I removed the guards from the Hummzinger feeder and Mr Rufous is happily eating his breakfast at his favorite feeder....far away from us! ha! I've decided if he stays into our colder months, with snow and ice, I'll rig up a strand of Christmas lights and sit his feeder on those to help keep the feeder somewhat warm? If anyone has any other idea's or tried methods, please let me know. I've thought about hanging a squirrel baffle over the top of the feeder just to help with rain, snow and ice...but not sure if that would discourage a hummingbird or not??
