Master Gardeners were working in the butterfly garden, which is a designated Monarch Waystation, at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park in Elizabethton, TN. All five of us sighted a fresh male nectaring on asters. It was about 3:30 pm. It did not linger long and seemed to be on its way southward. It was a sunny day with temps in the high 50s with a slight wind. All the flowers were gone but the asters and a few goldenrods. That's only the fifth monarch I have seen this year, both spring and fall.
