How cold of temperatures can ruby throated hummingbirds withstand and how late in the fall will they stay? We have a female sitting at our feeder, 28 degrees out, 11/8/2013, 6:30 a.m. She is flying slowly due to cold temperatures. After she left the feeder and the sun came up a little, I could see the sugar water was partially frozen. I’m not certain if she reached liquid sugar water or not so I brought it in and put in fresh, and took it right out again.
I wonder if she is considering migrating? If you know, let me know. The temperatures will soon be in the teens to low 20’s early next week. I find hummingbirds are a true interest, amazing to anyone who watches them. This is my first season at learner.org, but I am wondering if the little hummingbird is going to migrate??
