42 monarchs Thur & Fri netted

Altus and I got out across the causeway about 10:15
this morning and Altus worked the line of sunflowers
for over an hour. She managed to net twenty-one
monarchs that wanted to stop to nectar on the
freshest of the flowers. I could sit in the Tahoe
and watch with binocs and many times call out to her
where a monarch was or it was going to land. Many,
many more than this were going past to the other side
of the TX35 peninsula towards Port Lavaca ... at the best
time there were at least three a minute passing within
fifty feet of a fixed point. Not good, but there
were at least some!

We went back about 3:30 and Altus worked a narrow line of
seaside daises for about an hour plus a few very short
seaside goldenrod and got an additional dozen. So on
Thurs and Fri she has netted 42 monarchs coming down
the Coastal Flyway.
