I counted 22 Monarch caterpillars in my tropical milkweed garden this morning. Recently, the weather has been cooler, with temps dipping into the upper 40's at night and highs in the upper 60's to mid 70's during the day. Since temps have been lower, I've noticed many of the caterpillars have turned a darker color and no longer have the distinct bright yellow and white stripes. They now have more black and are not as fat.
