It was a very cold, cloudy, windy day and the soil was getting hard. We had to make a small hole with the trowel in order to insert the tulip bulb into the soil. We planted the bulbs with the point facing up and we made sure they were about 4 inches apart and were planted at a depth of about 7 inches. We each had our own spot to plant using a grid so we could track the location of our tulip in the spring.
