Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 01/01/2014

Number: 1

This is a view from the Sierra Chincua sanctuary. It is typically one of the largest. However, last winter (2012/2013) only 9 million monarchs were present compared to 22 million in 2010/2011. The mountains in the overwintering region were formed by volcanoes. For a close-up look and the landscape of the region see the Sierra Chincua Sanctuary on Google Maps.
