Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 11/27/2013

Number: 1

We've had snows up to 4 in., with numerous nights in the mid-20's. I went out in the yard today, and found this freshly emerged male Monarch Butterfly, with the wings barely dry. Temp today at 42 degrees. Amazing! It is the best year for Monarchs I've seen in NM in the 8 1/2 years I've been here. The big crop was after the late Aug./Sept. Rains, and great stands of Milkweed. I think all production was from early migrants.
