Robin (OTHER Observations)

Date: 01/24/2014

Number: 1

This year overall is a very low count for robins. Where I've normally seen hundreds daily going over head, it is more common this winter to go days without seeing them at all. My cherry laurel trees have no fruit this winter. So, they may be other places in search of food. A favorite food is the fruit from our highly invasive Brazilian Pepper which may be their biggest source of fruit for this winter, found in wild areas of the state where the tree has taken hold. Yet, on a bird trip on Weds we saw exactly one robin in 8 hours. My own Christmas Bird Count had only 8 on it. Others saw maybe 20-40 but in general in this part of Florida, very few.
