Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 01/20/2014

Number: 1

I actually have 2 gardens. My home garden is in Santa Ana .

At home I have had butterflies and cats all winter. The weather has been very mild. Today 2/3/14 I collected 14 caterpillars. They are all sizes. The weather is cooler today, for us = 60 degrees I haven't seen any monarchs. I have, however, found cabbage whites, gulf Frits , and sulphers flying throughout the garden. Usually there are monarchs present too. The garden is 21/2 yrs. old.

My school garden also has monarch cats as well as the butterflies. The school is located in Anaheim, approx. 1/2 mile from Disneyland. My home is about 10 miles east of the school. The gardens are very similar in design, the school garden has been remodeled recently, after 12 years. The cats are still coming. I have a group of 4th -6th graders that take care of this garden. They are Garden Scholars
