Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 12/12/2013

Number: 25

We have had hummers year-round - this year Charleston was hit with a bad ice storm - ice cycles on everything - but those little guys just kept on coming. I made their food 2/1 and it was so syrupy that the feeders never froze, even in 13 degree weather. (that's cold for Charleston, SC) We mostly have Ruby-Throats but also confirmed a black chin. We've also enjoyed a pair of Downeys enjoying their suet/bug cakes all winter long as well as lots of Red Bellies and Pileated, Ruby-Crowned Kinglets, FLycatchers and so many more as well as lots of shore birds. Being on the flyway is incredibly fantastic. We see at least 15 species every morning within 30 minutes. Loving birding - Sally & Paul
