We have a crab apple tree that I have made jam from, right by our livingroom picture window, that's full of fruit. Imagine my surprise to see a flock of robins, feathers fluffed up in the below zero early February cold, in Minnesota, ravenously eating the dried crab apples off the tree. I had no idea robins came this early. It has been one of the worst Minnesota winters I've ever experienced, with week after week of 40-below to 70-below wind chill warnings and school closings. Lake Superior is "91% frozen" they say. I saw these robins as a good omen. Coincidentally within days of my birthday.
