The ground is covered with 1-2 ft of snow. There are still many days of below freezing actual temps. I think these poor birds must be lost or confused to be here so early. They were all huddled together in a small 15 ft ornamental (possibly a pyracantha coccinea) tree with some little orange/red fruit still clinging to limbs, no way enough for all the birds. I have a feeder , and I know many neighbors feed birds through out the year. Could this be attracting the early birds??
