I was surprised to see an immature male redwinged blackbird eating from a suet ball and from our bird feeders here in northeast Iowa mid January. He's been with us for a month now. He had the streaked plumage and a dull orange epaulet instead of the bright red/yellow of an adult male redwinged. He is quite aggressive, chasing away larger blue jays. I don't know if he jumped the gun on migration or never migrated south for some reason.
