Milkweed (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/02/2014

Number: 1

We have been on milkweed safari! A. viridis is up to six inches in the bar ditch in southern Calhoun County. A. oenotheroides is up at least four inches in southern and central Calhoun County. Very dry. (Also have A. asperula up to three inches in our pasture in DeWitt County). Very few nectar flowers available ... most were at the peninsula at the north end of the Lavaca Bay Causeway. Did I mention it was dry? It is 73 dF but a cold front is just 60 miles away and the temp could fall 35 degrees
by sundown.
