All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 03/02/2014

Number: 1

The temperature was not above freezing all day. The north wind made it even colder. The black oil sunflower seed was distributed to the goldfinch, cardinals, brown thrush, titmice, chickadees, towhees, etc. We saw redwing blackbirds, killdeer, mallards, and blue birds as well. The surprise was to see one lone purple martin shivering on the southeast side of a martin house. We had seen two scouts on February 16. We felt sorry for this martin as we had no idea how he/she would survive a night in the teens. The next morning there was no sign of the martin.
