This morning I was out looking for Tundra Swans. I have seen them as early as March 6 in 2010, but the past 2 years it has been March 9. I didn't get out yesterday, but I found a flock of 18 Tundra Swans mixed with Canada Geese approx.9 miles (14km) SE of Lethbridge just west of Hwy 4 and about 1 mile north of Stirling Lake. A mile further north I found a flock of 10 Northern Pintails with a large flock of Canada Geese. Tundra Swans and Northern Pintails are some of the earliest returning waterfowl to southern Alberta and a sure sign that spring is just about here.
