Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/10/2014

Number: 1

We heard red-winged blackbirds in the wetlands just east of Angola Middle School. It was sunny, 39 degrees F. We also saw a bluebird. For most of my students, they spotted their first robin, and for a few, they couldn't identify a robin. I had seen several flocks of sand hill cranes the day before, heard many before we went outside yesterday, and saw some on my run after school, but none when my class went outside. After my run and my walk home from school, I saw a sure sign of spring - a turkey vulture or buzzard. I also saw a father and son playing catch in the street and a mother with kids in a stroller. Our forecast is for eight inches of snow followed by - 3 temperatures.
