Bald Eagle

Date: 02/26/2014

Number: 1

I was driving down Highway 229 south of Tallassee, AL when I noticed two large birds in a field near the highway. It is extremely common to see turkey vultures along the sides of the roads in this area, but this time something caught my eye. After I had passed the birds I looked back over my shoulder and noticed that it was two bald eagles, one mature and the other juvenile. I have seen bald eagles on nearby Lake Martin in the past, but this is my first sighting around Tallassee (near the Tallapoosa River). I'm glad to see eagle populations growing again in Alabama.
