Hummingbird, Other Species Sighted

Date: 03/18/2014

Number: 1

The adult female Anna's Hummingbird still uses the sugar water feeder in the early morning, to recharge after our cold nights. She is one of three birds that over wintered in our yard. I see her hawking insects sometimes during the day.An adult male hummingbird visited the feeders a few days ago. His rose colored head gleamed in the sunlight. We had a sub-adult male over winter in our yard from November to the first part of February. It was interesting to watch how the rose colored feathers molted across his head. Perhaps the adult male that visited us this last week, is that same bird, now with a beautiful full rose-colored gorget and hood.
