We have one sub-adult male and two female Anna's Hummingbirds over-wintering in our yard. It has been a very cold winter with temperatures dipping into the single digits. We have three feeders that are heated to keep the nectar from freezing. The sub-adult male has just a few rose-colored feathers on his head. Surprisingly, the birds do not waste a lot of energy squabbling amongst themselves over the feeders; it helps that the feeders are placed in different parts of the yard, and located next to dense cover.
