We made our first Living Lab garden visit in 2014 on the day BEFORE the first day of spring. We had perfect timing because one tiny tulip sprout in the test garden plot had just emerged. We pulled back the bald cypress needles we had used as mulch to reveal the little yellow tip.
In other parts of the garden there were tulips and daffodils that had more green showing. We found that of the veggies we planted in fall, only the kale survived. What a tough plant!
In spite of the cold (a little sleet!) weather we planted our sugar snap peas and spinach. We will be excited to watch for more tulips emerging as we care for our spring veggies.
