Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 03/20/2014

Number: 1

I saw over 2 dozen Monarchs as I drove around for 2 hours today. They were mostly getting nectar from citrus trees and Lantana. There were lots of other varieties of butterflies out and about on this sunny 70+ degree day.

I went to and from Maas Nursery. I saw approximately a dozen Monarchs nectaring on the Lantana and citrus trees and flying around at the nursery. One was on my citrus at home. Another 11 or 12 on the way home. They were not giant Swallowtails, Painted Ladies, and so on, but I did see these butterflies also.

The nursery did have a shipment of Butterfly Weed available, so there may actually be a few eggs hiding; I did not see that process or eggs, though.

Most of the Monarchs looked fairly fresh. I would hazard a 99% chance they were from here. One was tattered and worn, but it has been very windy here. (more so than past years)
