Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/31/2014

Number: 1

I saw a monarch flying by while I was walking around the University of Georgia Campus. It looked new and bright! The wings looked healthy.

I’m an undergraduate student doing research with monarch butterflies, so I work with them 12 hours a week. I think I’ve gotten rather good at recognizing monarchs, so I’m sure that’s what I saw. 😊 I haven’t seen any milkweed myself, but I know that there are places on campus that grow milkweed.

I'm more than confident that the monarch did not escape from the lab. We haven't been working with the butterflies very much other than simply feeding them in the lab.
