Milkweed (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 03/28/2014

Number: 1

Today I saw several monarchs flying low over the pasture and also nectaring on false garlic flowers and blackberry blossoms. So I decided to take a look for milkweed and sure enough there were quite a few of our native milkweed (Asclepias viridis) sprouted and even some pretty well developed. I think they had emerged sometime earlier in the week. I did not find any eggs on the milkweed plants that I examined. It was a sunny, very warm day around 80 degrees F, though a strong storm front came through at dusk bring some rain, wind, and cooler temps.
