Tulips EMERGED
Sightings report image

Date: 04/02/2014

Number: 1

All 15 of our tulip bulbs have emerged, but they are all different sizes. We noticed that there were peanut shells in the garden and so we thought there might have been squirrels that could have eaten our bulbs. We are wondering where the squirrels got the peanuts from? We protected the bulbs by putting nets over them in the fall, but we took the net off today. Most of the sprouts are red, but we also saw some green and yellow. We also noticed another bulb in the garden had blossomed and it was purple, green and yellow. It was a crocus. The air temperature was 39 degrees Fahrenheit and the soil temperature was 34 degrees Fahrenheit. The soil was moist because the snow has been melting. There were dead leaves in the garden. The weather report says that snow is coming later this week and we are worried about our tulips. We think we should try to cover them back up with leaves to protect them.
