All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 03/20/2014

Number: 1

Our tree survived the winter! On the second day of spring, the leaves of the Southern Red Oak hadn’t started growing, but there were leftover leaves from fall. Two-thirds of the tree’s dead leaves have fallen to the ground. There are not a lot of acorns because it is spring. Little red buds are growing on the tree. Even a few little leaves have sprouted. We are so happy our leaves are growing!
The circumference of our tree’s trunk is 700 centimeters. The bark is bumpy and rough. Moss is covering the bark like it is hugging the bark really tight. The air temperature 58 degrees Fahrenheit. One branch on the tree is 12 feet long. Limbs broke off because of the hard snow. The tree’s soil temperature is 42 degrees Fahrenheit in the sun and 41 degrees Fahrenheit in the shade.
