Sightings report image

Date: 04/07/2014

Number: 1

Today, 4/7/2014, under cloudy skies, 73 degrees Becky and I located our first Monarch (Danaus plexippus), since that two day period of 18 degrees in January that killed back our milkweed and the adult Monarchs that were wintering over here at the Landing’s, Skidaway Island Sparrow Field, Chatham Co, Ga.

This female appeared to be fairly fresh and was often observed in the overpositing posture on the leaves of the newly emerged Asclepias curassavica, (Tropical Milkweed or Mexican Milkweed). The third year milkweed plants are app 6-8” in height and share the berm plot with Dill and other host plants for the Black Swallowtail. I did not check the leaves for eggs, will do so tomorrow.(Photos acquired)
